It snowed the other night. I should have been excited, just like my friends were; I was not. The snow in Tumling was different.
It was early 2008 and life was characterized by monotony and dullness; typical phase in a software engineer's life. So, when Basu and Megha finally decided to get married, we decided to make our trip to Kolkata. More than a break from the routine affair that life had become, it was also a time to meet old friends and to indulge in our passion for travelling.
Atop Tumling, there was nothing. Barring our guest house and the family that hosted us, it was nothingness for miles together. We had left civilization far behind. The prospect of having to have a face off with Yeti, some 10000 feet above sea level kept our sleep at bay.
At 4 in the morning, in subzero temperatures, Jayanth woke me up from my feigned sleep. Palani and Qiang Jung were still asleep, or so we believe. He had set up his SLR to capture the early morning sight, of stars in the sky at the backdrop of the majestic mountains; Ineffable.
It's been almost 10 months now. Palani too got married, Qiang Jung left for China and I find myself in Ithaca. Monotony has given way to frenzy. In fact, there's no time to think and ascertain what's happening, as days come and go, with me having the slightest cognizance of it. I've forgotten how the lazy weekends, and the lazier weekdays felt. Lost as well is the wonderment for nature's little bag of tricks.
